What Does Static Mean in Gaming? Static Meaning

A static is a fixed group of players who raid or play together on a regular schedule, mostly in MMOs. Learn how a static works and how to join one.

Static means a fixed group of players who play together on a regular schedule, most often to clear raids in MMOs such as Final Fantasy XIV.

Unlike a random group that forms for one night, a static keeps the same members, roles and meeting times, week after week. That consistency helps the team learn encounters and improve together.

How players use it

  • "Our static clears on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 PM server time."
  • "Static has an open DPS spot, any experienced players?"
  • "I left my static, the schedule did not fit anymore."
  • "Looking for a static, casual pace, I have a mic."

You can also use it as an adjective: "static members", "a static run". Some players call the whole thing a "raid team" or "fixed group" instead.

What a static usually involves

  • A schedule. Members agree on days and times. Showing up matters, since one absence can block a whole attempt.
  • Fixed roles. The team normally has defined roles, for example tank, healer and damage dealers.
  • Shared goals. Some statics aim for a first clear, others only for a relaxed weekly run. State this clearly when recruiting.
  • Voice comms. Most statics use Discord or in-game voice.
  • Rules. Many have rules on lateness, preparation and replacing absent members.

A static is a type of premade: a team that plays together on purpose. Statics are common in Final Fantasy XIV and Lost Ark, and the term is also used in other MMOs and raid-focused games.

Finding or joining a static

Recruiting posts go on game communities, Discord servers and finder tools, and look like LFM posts with extra detail on schedule and expectations. Be honest about your availability and your skill level. For a game-specific walkthrough, read how to find a static in Lost Ark. To see who is looking for the same game now, use /find-players.

FAQ

What is the difference between a static and a guild?

A guild is a large community. A static is a small team inside or outside a guild, with a fixed schedule and roster, made to play specific content together.

How many players are in a static?

It depends on the content. A static is sized to match the activity it runs, so check the group size required by the raid or dungeon you want to clear.

Do statics require experience?

It depends on the goal. Progression statics often want experienced players, while casual statics welcome newcomers. The recruiting post usually says which.

What happens when someone leaves a static?

The team recruits a replacement, often by posting an LFM message that describes the open role.
