LFG stands for "looking for group": a player announcing that they want teammates for a game, a mode, a dungeon or a ranked session. It is posted in game chat, on Discord servers, on forums and in dedicated finder tools.
An LFG post usually says which game, which mode, what rank or skill level, what region, and what the vibe is (chill or competitive). The more detail, the better the replies. A post with only "lfg" gets ignored, because nobody can tell whether they fit.
How players use it
- "LFG Valorant ranked, Gold 2, EU, mic on, no toxicity"
- "LFG for Nightreign, 2 more needed, chill"
- "LFG Rocket League 2s, evenings (CET)"
- "Any LFG tonight? New to Helldivers 2, happy to learn"
Some players write it as a verb ("I'm lfging") or as a noun ("check the LFG channel"). On Discord, most gaming servers have an LFG channel, and many use bots to turn posts into formatted cards.
What a good LFG post includes
- Game and mode, for example ranked, casual, raid, co-op.
- Level, such as your rank, hours played or gear level.
- Region and time zone, so that ping and schedules work.
- Language and comms: mic or text only, and which language.
- Spots left: "need 2 more" is clearer than "need people".
Where to post an LFG
Game chat and in-game finders are the fastest but only reach players of that one game. Discord servers work well once you find an active one (see our list of LFG Discord servers and the setup guide for an LFG channel). If you would rather skip posting and waiting, apps like GameVerse show players who are online now for the same game and region, so you can message them directly. You can start from /find-players.

FAQ
What is the difference between LFG and LFM?
LFG means a player is looking for a group to join. LFM means "looking for more": a group already exists and needs extra members. Players mix them up often, and most communities treat them as interchangeable.
Does LFG stand for "looking for game"?
Sometimes. "Looking for group" is the standard expansion, and "looking for game" is a common variant. The intent is the same: the player wants people to play with.
Is LFG only for MMOs?
No. It became common in group-based games like MMOs, but today it is used for shooters, MOBAs, survival games, sports games and co-op titles of every kind.
