DayZ is a game where the most dangerous thing on the map is usually another player, and where a good friend is worth more than any rifle. It has no group finder of any kind: you spawn on the coast, alone, with a flashlight and a rag. Why random teammates hurt in DayZ
In most games a bad teammate costs you a match. In DayZ a bad teammate costs you a character: hours of looting, a car that finally runs, a stash you spent a week filling. Someone who shoots a friendly at the airfield, logs off with the group's gear, or leaks your base location can end a run in one evening. And since there is no matchmaking, strangers are met by chance: in a city, over proximity chat, with a weapon pointed at you.
Talking first changes that. Agree before you spawn on the meeting point (the coast is vast and spawns are random), the rule on strangers (shoot on sight, negotiate, or stay hidden), and who carries what.
Know your platform before you search
DayZ runs on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, and the player pools are not one big shared world. The Steam version on PC does not play with consoles, PlayStation has its own servers, and characters do not carry over between platforms. The PC version from the Microsoft Store has its own rules for joining Xbox servers, so check in the game before you plan a mixed PC and Xbox group.

Every way to play
Vanilla survival, roleplay, PvP-heavy or PvE-only servers, base building, convoy hunting: the same DayZ player search covers them all.
