Path of Exile 2 Party Play Before the 1.0 Launch

How Path of Exile 2 parties work before 1.0 on December 11, 2026: six-player co-op, couch co-op, crossplay, leagues and how to find a party for bosses.

Path of Exile 2 supports co-op for up to six players, and its 1.0 full release is scheduled for December 11, 2026 (PST), when the game launches as a free-to-play action RPG. Until then you can already group up in Early Access on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and two people can share one screen in couch co-op on a single account. The hard part is not the party system, it is finding five other people who want to run the same content at the same hour.

We checked the Steam store page, Grinding Gear Games' official forum announcements and patch notes, and its Early Access FAQ on November 2, 2026. Anything we could not confirm from an official source is left out or labelled.

GGG has not detailed how the game will be monetised at 1.0, so we do not describe it here.

How parties work

You group up with other players in game and run content together. Steam lists the game as online co-op for up to six players, and that is the number to plan around.

Party play does change how fights feel: patch notes have repeatedly adjusted party scaling and party bonuses, but we could not confirm current monster life or loot multipliers from an official source, so we do not quote numbers here. Treat a bigger party as a coordination tool, not a free shortcut, and expect bosses to behave differently from what a solo guide describes.

Since patch notes keep changing these rules, check the latest notes on the official forum before you plan a farming strategy around party loot.

Couch co-op

GGG's Early Access FAQ says you can play couch co-op on a single account from the start, and the second player creates a character on that account. Patch notes since then added dual cursors for interfaces that could not be panelled, and panelled interfaces so both players can have different windows open in towns. If you want to play with a partner on one TV, that is the setup.

Crossplay and accounts

During Early Access, GGG staff stated that Path of Exile 2 is cross-platform, with characters and in-game progress shared as long as your platform accounts are linked to your Path of Exile account. That is an older forum answer, and GGG had not published 1.0 crossplay details when we checked, so treat it as the Early Access position and confirm after the November 6 reveal. Early Access was bought per platform, so a PC player and a console player each needed access on their own platform; at 1.0 the game is free to play. Before a planned mixed session, check with your group that invites actually work.

Leagues and what changes at 1.0

Two leagues are running right now. The Forbidden Rites event league started with 0.5.5 on September 4, 2026, and GGG's FAQ says it will run until the 1.0 full release and end alongside the Runes of Aldur league, whose content is being added to the core game. The Early Access FAQ promised that Early Access characters will not be wiped. We found no official name or date for a 1.0 launch league as of November 2, 2026. GGG has scheduled its 1.0 full reveal at ExileCon 2026 on November 6 (PST), so that is the date to watch.

This matters for party planning: if you want a group for the 1.0 launch, the best moment to look is the week of the reveal, when people decide what they will play.

Finding a party for endgame and bosses

Agree on these points first, because they decide whether a group holds together:

  1. Content: campaign, maps, or a specific boss. Bossing parties and mapping parties are different sessions.
  2. Class and Ascendancy: share builds before starting so you are not all running the same role.
  3. Session length: maps are long. Say whether you can play two hours or six.
  4. Death rules: hardcore or softcore, and what happens when someone leaves.
  5. Region and schedule: a party that cannot meet at the same hour does not run.

Friends and guilds

The most reliable party is people you already know. Add them in game before the session so invites are one click away.

Discord, forums and Reddit

Path of Exile has a long-running community on Reddit and on Discord, and the official forum has trading and group threads. Say your region, platform, build and the content you want in one line. Our list of the best LFG Discord servers in 2026 is a good place to start.

GameVerse

GameVerse is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, with mobile coming soon. It shows players online now for the same game and region, chill or competitive, and lets you message them. A search holds up to 8 players, so it covers a six-player party, but it does not match on rank, role or schedule: you agree on those in the chat. Path of Exile 2 is in the catalogue, see the Path of Exile 2 page, or browse find players for other games.

Common problems

  • Mixed platforms: crossplay details for 1.0 are not published yet, so confirm on the day that invites work across your consoles and PCs.
  • No shared goal: one person wants a campaign run, another wants map farming. Settle it before the first invite.
  • Weak coverage of roles: six players with the same build make a slow party. Split offence, defence and support.
  • Timing the launch: servers will be busy on December 11. Pick a backup hour.

FAQ

How many players can be in a Path of Exile 2 party?

Up to six, according to the Steam page. Couch co-op is separate and holds two players on one account.

Is Path of Exile 2 free to play?

During Early Access, access came with a supporter pack. GGG says the game launches as a fully free-to-play action RPG on December 11, 2026 (PST).

Does Path of Exile 2 have crossplay?

During Early Access, GGG staff said it is cross-platform, with characters and progress shared once your accounts are linked. GGG had not published crossplay details for 1.0 as of November 2, 2026, so check again after the ExileCon reveal.

Can you play Path of Exile 2 couch co-op?

Yes. Two players can share one account and device, and the second player creates a character on that account.

Will there be a new league at 1.0?

Forbidden Rites runs until the 1.0 release. No launch league had been named as of November 2, 2026. GGG's 1.0 reveal is scheduled for November 6 (PST).

How do I find a party for Path of Exile 2 bosses?

Agree on the boss, builds and hours, then look in guilds, Discord and Reddit, or search for players online now in your region with GameVerse.
